About Slovenia |
|
Slovenia, not
Slovakia!
Slovenia split from Yugoslavia on June 25th 1991 and on May 1st 2004 became
part of European community. Often called it Europe in miniature, Slovenia
has much to offer to everyone - travelers, tourists and to those who call
it a home.
If you are looking for unspoiled nature, you simply won't be disappointed
with Slovenia: the Alps with its passes and Triglav National Park, Lipica with it's famous
horses, the Skocjan Caves and |

 |
the Karst, not to mention gorgeous Logarska
Valley. Be sure not to miss the emerald waters of Soca or the Intermittent
Lake in Cerknica.
For those interested in history, there will be plenty of
it with every step you take around this lovely country in the heart of
Europe. Slovenia is known as the land of castles. Seeing them in their dramatic
settings at Bled, Predjama in Postojna, Ljubljana and Skofja Loka as
well as in Celje, Mokrice and Bogensperk you will know why. And of course
don't forget Benka's hometown Ptuj, where, on the hill overlooking the
ancient town below stands the oldest castle in Slovenia. |
If you are into adventure travel or sports, Slovenia is wonderfully suited
to you. Possibilities for rock climbing, hiking, kayaking, canoeing, caving,
bird watching, cycling, canyoning, skiing, golfing, horseback riding,
fishing and sport hunting are around every corner. It is not surprising
then, that most of Slovenes are active, sport loving people. No couch
potatoes here!
After an active day of exploring you may want to rest up in one of Slovenia's 16
thermal spa resorts. Delicious traditional food should be washed down with |

excellent Slovene
wines such as Traminar, Rizling, Pinot Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet, Refosk,
Teran, Cvicek and so many others. And, as with all proper Europeans, they
know how to brew excellent beer as well!
